Music from Gogo Chilaka

STRAIGHT/COUNCILMEMBA is a live medley of two songs from my debut mixtape UNIVERSAL STRUGGLES. UNIVERSAL STRUGGLES itself is a treatise on the transience of emotion. The project follows a progression of fleeting feelings, starting with FEAR and ending with HAPPINESS. Although some sentiments spill over into many of the songs, each track on the 26-minute project attempts to represent a corresponding, singular emotion.

In this raw, DIY performance of the songs STRAIGHT and COUNCILMEMBA, I aim to viscerally and musically convey the emotions of DISGUST and SADNESS, respectively. STRAIGHT embodies DISGUST with its hard-hitting lyricism about an aversion to those who are not straightforward with their words and actions while COUNCILMEMBA acts as a visceral expression of SADNESS in its pleading entreaties for support and recognition.
