Faith at Home

By Jasmine Engel-Malone (@jasmxnemarxe)

“The majority of my work is centred around the construct of femininity and the difference between nudity and nakedness.
I love to go to the homes of my friends and shoot them in their environment where they can express themselves freely and feel comfortable. With the outcome being images that emit femininity without the elements of erotica which usually come from the male gaze. I believe that more female artists need to create the images that they wish to be represented by, to set our own definition of what femininity is.

Within this particular shoot the aim was to showcase the strength and dedication within the art of pole dancing. Whereby the body itself becomes almost a sculptural art piece. It is also sometimes viewed as a subject of controversy, some could even say ‘tasteless’ (which it shouldn’t be) due to its sometimes sexual connotations. Realistically it is an art form, in which art and sexuality come together. It is a beautiful way of expression and takes more strength than a lot of people realise.

I shot the project on 120mm film using Kodak Portra.”
